We report the recovery and identification of an influenza 15 B virus with the H273Y neuraminidase point mutation directly from a human patient. The 16 H273Y influenza B isolate is resistant to oseltamivir and peramivir but sensitive to zanamivir. 17 18 Resistance to oseltamivir is conferred on seasonal and pandemic A/H1N1 neuraminidase (NA) 19 by a histidine-to-tyrosine mutation at position 275 (corresponds to 273 in B and 274 in N2 NA 20 amino acid numbering) which causes a structural change in the protein active site that weakens 21 the binding of oseltamivir (5). Although initially rare, this mutation became prevalent in 22 clinical samples from treated patients during the 2007-2008 influenza season. Recovery of influenza B virus with the H273Y point mutation in the neuraminidase active site from a human patient.

The H275Y oseltamivir resistance mutation confers high-level resistance to oseltamivir in isolates of human A(H1N1) influenza. We report the recovery and identification of an influenza B virus with the H273Y neuraminidase point mutation directly from a human patient. The H273Y influenza B isolate is resistant to oseltamivir and peramivir but sensitive to zanamivir.

Identification of Neuraminidase Gene Mutations of Influenza A/H3N2 Isolates in Mazandaran Province, 2016-2018

Background and purpose: Influenza is one of the viral infections of the respiratory system, which causes death in high-risk groups every year. The genomic changes of influenza virus make it susceptible to drug resistance, therefore, continuous monitoring of the influenza virus is highly important in order to recognize the efficacy of available drugs. The current study investigated the neuramin...

Neuraminidase gene sequence analysis of avian influenza H9N2 viruses isolated from Iran

Influenza A viruses possesses two virion surface glycoproteins including haemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). The NA plays an important role in viral replication and promotes virus release from infected cells and facilitates virus spread throughout the body. To find out any genomic changes that might be occurred on NA gene of avian influenza circulating viruses, we have genetically analy...

Molecular Characterization and Phylogenetic Analysis of Neuraminidase Gene in A/H1N1 Influenza Virus Isolates Circulating in Iran, 2014-2015.

Objectives: Influenza is one of the most important emerging and reemerging infectious diseases in the world. The aim of this study is molecular and phylogenetic analyses of the variations in circulating influenza A/H1N1 virus isolates during 2014-2015 in Iran and investigate on the drug resistance conditions in the related Iranian isolates. Material and Methods: Throat samples from Iranian pat...

Baculoviral Expression of Influenza A Virus (H1N1 New Caledonia) Neuraminidase in Insect Cells

Background and Aims: Each year, the influenza virus causes moderate to severe infections with a high prevalence throughout the world. Accordingly, an influenza vaccine that ensures protection with only a single dose would be a much more cost effective approach to influenza prophylaxis. Generation of Influenza non-replicating virus-like particles (VLP) in baculoviral expression system is an attr...
